The IT Project Dilemma: How a Fresh Approach to Project Portfolio Management (PPM) Can Help Save IT.
Here at Innotas we talk constantly about the challenges facing IT, and they are many:
- Aligning IT with the business
- Doing more with less
- Dealing with audits and compliance
- Reducing complexity
- And so much more
We've also lamented the many statistics that IT is saddled with, including:
- Only 34% of IT projects are considered to be successful, and $55B is wasted annually on IT projects (The Standish Group)
- 90% of IT projects are over budget (Aberdeen)
- Half of IT projects fail to meet objectives (Gartner)
We believe that there is an "IT Project Dilemma" — IT projects are failing, but most of the PPM solutions designed to help manage and solve these project problems are too complex, too expensive, too lengthy to implement, and are poorly adopted.
We believe that a simpler approach to PPM will help solve these problems. There is a simpler, yet feature rich, class of solutions known as "On Demand PPM" that can help solve the IT Project Dilemma. We're heartened that progressive organizations such as ADP, The Members Group and Athabasca University have adopted this new approach to help solve the IT Project Dilemma. The greatest challenge lies not in our own personal view, but in the shared view. I may believe I know what the priorities are, but what do WE know? Therein lies the challenge. This blog article discusses important steps for developing those priorities. Read More
